To Be or to be Better
JCI Edinburgh showcased the work of Forum Interactive Scotland's leading
learning and development consultancy using theatre and active learning on
Monday 26th February at Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa. A memorable and fun
evening of training with a unique interactive element was presented and
those attending played a very active part the proceedings.
Three professional actors created and facilitated a scenario aimed at
developing effective performance management through creating effective
working relationships. The brilliantly and realistically acted scene was
that of an ineffectual and relatively new senior manager Tony Preston
attempting to deal with "difficult" and abrasive Section Manager Joyce
Milne.
Ongoing problems at their workplace a fictitious Livingston circuit
board factory meant things needed resolved at the organisation. Yet Tony and
Joyce needed to be able to work together to ensure the factory could work to
its full potential. As participants we could influence Tony's behaviour by
advising him on how to deal with this situation as he stepped in and out of
the "active space" of this encounter through the power of facilitator Glen
Robertson. Time could be stopped and replayed and the thoughts of the
protagonists read in the magic scenario that was created by Forum
Interactive.
The participants developed practical, creative solutions to the
organisational issues arising from the way Tony and Joyce related and
communicated at work. It was a great way to gain insight into effective
behaviour and communication in work situations.
Graham, Glen and Tess of Forum Interactive produced what those present
thought was an excellent experience.
