Tanya's account of EC2007 in Maastricht

A fun filled, clogtastic 5 days in Maastricht at the JCI European Conference 2007

Diary of A Clog

Day 1 - arrived in the glorious sunshine of Maastricht about 11am on Wednesday, after an early morning start from a rather wet Edinburgh where wellies were definitely the footwear of choice! Met up with fellow clog wearers and had a traditional Dutch lunch of ham and cheese whilst enjoying the view of the River Maas. Did some swimming at the hotel pool and then on with the national dress for the welcome party. This was held at Maastricht Music Hall where the beer was flowing and food plentiful. Robbie W was fantastic, joined by the rest of Take That & Kylie.

Day 2 - Watched Stuart (fellow Edinburgh clog wearer) deliver an outstanding speech for the public speaking competition and then attended training a training session on effective meetings. There was a gathering of clogs for lunch and then a jaunt round the trade show. The evening was spent exploring the town of Maastricht whilst on a pub crawl - who ever said men couldn't multi task! Then on to the Turkish night for some clog spotting...

Day 3 - Up and ready to support our debaters yet foiled by the efficiency of JCI yet again! Did some clog dancing at the trade show then off to a wine tasting of wines from the Maastricht region, the only wine growing region in Holland. The clogs of Scotland then gathered for dinner and frequented both German and Finnish parties where some flag dancing and crayfish courting ensued.

Day 4 - Official day of rest for the clogs, before the gala dinner. The gala dinner was held in the lovely Hoensbroek castle where all clog wearers looked fabulous. Drink and food was plentiful including a chocolate fountain YUM. (I think the bunnies have forgiven me). Much clog dancing followed. There was even a chip van for the end of the night!

Day 5 - Finale gathering of the clogs for lunch and a boat trip down the River Maas in splendid sunshine to top off a tremendous and stupendous conference.
