Olivia Giles (2005) and Jamie Andrew (2007) launch "500 miles"
TOYP Honorees Launch New Charity
Two of the honorees for JCI Scotland's The Outstanding Young Person Awards, Olivia Giles and Jamie Andrew have launched a new charity called 500 miles.
The aim of 500 miles is to support amputees by funding initiatives which will deliver prosthetic services and related care in areas of desperate need. This may involve funding the education and training of prosthetists, components for prosthetic limbs or the building of prosthetic centres.
For the charity's first fundraising activity, Jamie will be participating in an Iron Man Triathalon (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and a 26.2 mile run). This would be an amazing challenge for anyone, but for a quadruple amputee this could be his biggest yet. The challenge is aptly being named Titanium Man.
More information on Olivia and Jamie, the charity, and Jamie's Titanium Man challenge can be found at www.500miles.co.uk, where you can also sponsor him. |
