Our 2011 training and personal development programme kicked off on 12 January with a session led by Jeremy Devlin-Thorp and Morgan Carberry of Peak Performance, a new company that provides innovative business training workshops for corporate professionals. They use music as a catalyst to explore core business concepts. It certainly sounded intriguing and the attendees were surprised to see a keyboard set up when they arrived at our venue.
The session focused on Personal Leadership including methods for increasing self understanding and awareness, tools for keeping inner control in stressful situations and how to use these skills to increase business efficiency and effectiveness. With Jeremy on keyboard and Morgan singing, we were entertained while at the same time asked to think about our personal and business lives. No audience participation was required on the singing front at least, much to everyone's relief. One of the tools we were taught was to use a trigger in times of stress - a song, an object or an action which brings our focus back to ourselves.
Here is what some of our members said about the session:-
"Friendly, fun, useful and highly entertaining – thought provoking"
"Well structured and felt it could apply regardless of type of business/industry you are in"
"The singing was a unique selling point, not been to one that used it. Definitely kept it going"
What did our members learn and discover from the session?
"Importance of setting targets and goals in both work and personal life"
"That you don’t have to detach emotions in business"
"Extent to which having coherent personal and business values (that match) can improve my effectiveness in and out of the workplace2
"Made me think more positively about changes I can make"
"Looking at effectiveness vs. efficiency"
